Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) Training

Leavitt Training is a Suncor Energy approved provider for Air Purifying Respirators (APRs) & Supplied Air Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE).

Our respiratory protective equipment (RPE) training is a classroom-based course that features a combination of theory and practical components. Through this course, participants are instructed in safe operating techniques, how to perform thorough inspections, and effective maintenance procedures. The contents of this RPE training course covers the following types of respiratory protective equipment:

  • Air-purifying respirator (APR).
  • Self-contained breathing apparatus.
  • Remote supplied breathing apparatus.

RPE Training Course Topics

  • Hazard identification and control.
  • Choosing the correct RPE for the situation.
  • Performing pre-use inspections.
  • Donning and doffing an air-purifying respirator (APR).
  • Donning and doffing a self-contained breathing apparatus.
  • Donning and doffing a remote-supplied breathing apparatus.

RPE Training Duration

This respiratory protective equipment training/RPE training course requires approximately 4 hours to complete. Please note that course durations can vary based on class sizes and other factors.

Evaluation and Completion

Upon completion of theory and practical instruction, a written exam is presented to test the participant’s understanding of course content. After a practical exercise is completed on all equipment covered in the course, a multiple-choice exam is conducted to validate participant learning.
