Scissor Lift FAQs

To determine the perfect aerial work platform for your needs, several questions must be answered first.

  • What heights will you be working at?
  • Do you require a larger basket or enhanced capacities to handle tools and multiple personnel?
  • What surfaces will you be primarily operating on? Hard and flat surfaces require different tires compared to uneven and soft surfaces.
  • Are you going to be operating primarily indoors, outside, or a combination of both?
  • What is your budget?

By answering these questions, our team can determine the perfect aerial work platform options for your needs. This ensures that you’re getting a solution that optimizes safety, productivity, and overall value. For assistance in answering these questions, contact our team to schedule an in-depth on-site assessment.

Scissor lift platforms can hold between 500 to 2,000 lbs depending on the model. Certain specialized models offer capacities slightly above 2,000 lbs, but most models will fall within the aforementioned range. This allows users to confidently place required tools in the basket for easy access at any height. Increased capacities also allow for multiple personnel in the basket, enhancing productivity. Regardless of the capacity of your elevated work platform, ensure that you don’t exceed it. Exceeding the rated capacity can cause severe machine damage and potentially fatal injuries.

Some small scissor lifts and electric mobile platform lifts are designed to fit through a standard-sized doorway. This makes it easy to get the unit in and out of a building without a garage-style door or large gate. These compact elevated work platforms are also ideal for working in elevator shafts and other confined indoor spaces.

Absolutely. All scissor lift operators must wear a “fall protection” harness during operation. Operators are also required to have completed a certified fall protection training program before using an aerial lift. Failure to use a harness while operating an aerial work platform can lead to severe injury and even death.

The weight of an aerial lift ranges from approximately 2,000 to 14,500 lbs. Small electric scissor lifts typically weigh less than large rough terrain scissor lifts. For assistance determining the weight of a specific aerial work platform, contact our team!

Scissor lifts are available in indoor-only and indoor/outdoor configurations. Indoor/outdoor aerial lifts can be used outside in slightly rainy conditions. However, it is not recommended to use any type of scissor lift in heavy rain or snow. Harsh weather conditions can reduce machine traction or cause damage to hydraulic components.
