Reach Stackers

Reach stackers, also known as container stackers, are high-performance solutions for intermodal and industrial applications. Featuring an extending boom, reachstackers allow operators to create deeper stacks of containers or materials instead of completely vertical stacks. This is ideal for operations with height restrictions or for sites that want to better utilize their space. In addition to outward reach, container stackers feature high lift capacities, exceptional visibility, and intelligent technology. These features combine to optimize productivity, safety, and performance value.

For all your intermodal and industrial container stacker needs, Leavitt Machinery is here to help. We’re proud to offer an extensive selection of quality reach stackers for sale from industry leaders including Taylor and Konecranes. Every unit in our fleet features high lift capacities, enhanced operator comfort, and efficient technology that boosts performance while reducing fuel consumption. Regardless of your requirements, our equipment experts will help you find the perfect reach stacker for your operation.

Differences Between a Reachstacker and Container Handler

When choosing equipment for your site, it’s important to understand the differences between a reachstacker and container handler. Knowing the unique capabilities of each unit will allow you to make an informed purchasing decision, ensuring optimal performance. The following is a list of unique features associated with reach stackers and container stackers/handlers:

Mast vs. Boom
The first difference between a reach stacker and container stacker can be seen in how each unit handles a load. A container handler utilizes a conventional mast like a forklift, while a reachstacker uses a boom like a telehandler. Due to these configurations, reach stackers tend to have better visibility while container stackers can lift a load to greater heights.

Height vs. Depth
Reach stackers are designed to create stacks up to 3 containers deep and 5 containers tall at the front. Container stackers/handlers are designed to create stacks up to 8 containers high but cannot reach beyond the initial stack. Reach stackers can create a large stack of 12 containers in total (5-4-3), while container stackers can create one stack of 8. As a result, the optimal choice for your operation is highly dependent on your height and space restrictions.

Configurations
Container stackers are available in loaded and unloaded models. As the names suggest, one is suited for handling heavy, loaded containers while the other is ideal for empty units. Instead of designated loaded/unloaded models, reachstackers are available in a variety of lift capacities ranging from 20,000 to 90,000 lbs. This means that you’ll need to know the weight of the materials/containers you’re handling to determine the ideal unit for your needs.
