Delta, BC — The Leavitt Machinery Hydraulics Learning Lab at the BCIT Motive Power Centre for Excellence was officially named at a recent event attended by Leavitt Machinery senior representatives Todd Cullum, John Mutis, and Mike Leavitt.

Leavitt Machinery’s support was used to fund advanced training aids and additional resources for the hydraulics learning lab at the BCIT Annacis Island Campus — providing students with the opportunity to work with up-to-date equipment and gain the skills necessary to ensure they are job-ready when they embark on their careers.

Guests saw firsthand the impact of the Leavitt Machinery support when students in the Heavy Mechanical Trades Foundation program demonstrated their skills on the simulator training boards and explained how this learning lab has positively impacted their education.

During the event, Mike Leavitt spoke about the growing relationship between Leavitt Machinery and BCIT, noting that approximately 100 of their employees are BCIT graduates, representing 20% of their workforce.

Steve Perry, Associate Dean, Motive Power Division emphasized that, “staying current with newer technology is very difficult to do. If we can use training aids like those found in this sponsored lab, we will be able to ensure the fundamental skills are learned well and can be used in a variety of contexts within the students’ careers.”

Thanks to the direct support from Leavitt Machinery, this learning lab will help ensure that the necessary educational resources are available to students who want to hit the ground running as they embark on rewarding careers.
